How Contemporary Lighting Design Can Improve Your Home’s Aesthetic

Did you know that upgrading your home lighting design could not only save you money but also significantly decrease the amount of energy you use? When it comes to lighting your home, simple on/off light switches are no longer the best solution. In fact, one of our leading brands, Lutron, features several innovative solutions that reduce energy output, saving you money year after year. So what exactly does upgrading your home lighting system entail? There are many solutions available—you can go as small as replacing your standard light switches with dimmers or as big as installing a whole new light management system. Both will save you money and energy almost instantly. Lutron’s dimmers and keypads allow homeowners to control the amount of light their fixtures provide based on mood, situation—or most important, time of day. When natural light is filling your home, there’s no need to have your lights at maximum output. Natural light is beneficial in many ways. It creates an inviting, aesthetically pleasing environment for your home interior, and it can also have positive effects on your health. Natural light contributes to your important daily dose of vitamin D and has been shown to improve focus and productivity. Another way to capitalize on daylight is by using shades in conjunction with dimmers. Lutron recently unveiled new Cellular Shades that help create the perfect balance between natural and artificial light to save energy and create an inviting environment. Cellular Shades are available in varying opacities from sheer and translucent to room darkening—so you can choose just how dark and private you want your space to be. Click here...

CE Pro 100. Again.

Digitech Custom Audio and Video has called its location along Station Drive in Carmel, Indiana home for a decade now, but we’re proving to be equally comfortable in another locality… The CE Pro 100. For the fifth time in the last six years and for the seventh time overall, Digitech has earned a spot in the consumer electronics magazine’s prestigious list of the industry’s top 100 revenue earners. CE Pro’s list, a veritable who’s who of the A/V world, is compiled according to billed business from residential installs that incorporate home audio, lighting controls, security systems, structured wiring, networking, etc. Digitech’s acumen with all of the above — and more — landed it firmly within the roster. Landing a spot on a list that also includes industry giants like ADT is no small feat — especially considering Digitech boasts just one location and more employees than only 23 of the 100 — and company president Mark Vyain is justifiably proud of the accomplishment. “Digitech is very appreciative to again be included in the CE Pro 100,” Vyain said. “Our inclusion in such a prestigious list is both humbling and rewarding, and is a testament not only to our commitment to excellence, but to the hard work of our staff as well. It will feel good to hang another CE Pro 100 plaque on the wall – I’d like to think it means we’re doing things...

Digitech acquires Integrated Home Technologies, Inc.

In late January, Digitech completed its acquisition of Indianapolis-based Integrated Home Technologies, Inc. With the merger, two of central Indiana’s foremost system integration specialists have joined forces to create one of the Midwest’s largest companies specializing in the design, sales and installation of residential and commercial audio, video, security and lighting control. Digitech President Mark Vyain is ecstatic about the unification. “IHT brings a range of technical talents to Digitech that acts to support our existing base of engineering, service and technical personnel and positions us to continue to provide our customary high level of service,” he said. “It’s a proven company with a very large and loyal customer base which Digitech will be proud to serve.” John Miller, who formed IHT in 1994, feels the move has created a two-headed A/V monster that is poised to command the greater Indianapolis market. “We are excited about this opportunity to complement Digitech’s services with those of our own,” said Miller. “Digitech is an established industry leader with an unparalleled reputation for quality and service, and together we will be able to provide greatly enhanced services to our combined clientele.” Miller, a co-founder of Digitech along with Vyain, has taken a supervisory sales position and will remain on staff at the newly-complemented company. He’s not alone; four former IHT employees have also made the transition to Digitech livery, as have several fleet vehicles and numerous other tools of the trade. Vyain sees the alliance as the culmination of a kind of perfect storm. “Digitech achieved significant growth over the past year,” he said. “The blending of our talents comes at a...

Control4 or Crestron?

Chocolate or vanilla? Sure. Coke or Pepsi? Of course. But, Control4 or Crestron? The latter debate may not be as widely recognized as the first pair of arguments, but it’s a dispute nonetheless; and, in the A/V field, a quite common one. Simply put, Control4 and Crestron are two of the principal combatants in the home automation fight. However, beyond first glance, their competition turns out to be more of an apples-to-oranges situation than a Chevrolet versus Ford matchup. Which one is right for you? The answer to that question could very easily be ‘both’, because each brand is long on advantages and quite deficient in the shortcomings department. Let’s take a look at what each has to offer: Control4 Affordability You can call a turn-key Control4 system — one which allows you to channel your inner George Jetson and turn on the jacuzzi from another country — your own for less than five figures… A price that’s not exactly Jetson-like. Continuity Control4’s user interface, while allowing for some customization, has a standard button pattern which does not change, no matter the device. That means the volume control can be found in the same location on your iPad as it is on your master bedroom touchpanel or your basement remote. Speed of Setup Despite its technological prowess, Control4 product remains remarkably simple and expeditious to install and program. The benefit of this is obviously that you avoid excessive labor charges but, more importantly, you get to play with your new toys more quickly. Crestron Customization A Crestron system, when it comes to ergonomics and user interface, is...
